We did a final drive up to Lake McDonald today hoping for some reflections today on the water but the conditions were not right. We left West Glacier and made our way further westwards into Northern Idaho. After debating the route with Jay, we are following a different route from the proposed one as Jay remains concerned about the mountain snow that is still about, so we have opted to do a route that is slightly more south as once again, we are only about twenty miles from the Canadian border.
Due to the fact that we needed to stop for a loo break (Jay says neither one of us are into ‘bushwees’), we found a saloon (yes, it was called a saloon) called the ‘Kicking Horse’... I have this ‘thing’ that we cannot just go and use the restroom but we have to buy a drink – which Jay says defeats the purpose as it generally goes without saying that I generally need another restroom an hour later. Jay took some brilliant pictures of the Kicking Horse saloon which was in the middle of nowhere or as the address read, ”Kicking Horse Saloon, Route 2, midway between Kalispell and Libby”.
Along our route we stopped at Kootenai Falls Park and took a walk down to the falls and their swinging bridge which Jay just had to run across (no hands).
We have once again gained another hour, we are now eight hours behind England, nine behind South Africa (we have not worked out Madeira and Japan yet). Once again we found ourselves on an Indian Reservation, the Kootenai Reservation and we have read some interesting information about their heritage. The hotel is really lovely and our room overlooks the Kootenai River. We took some time out down at the pool this afternoon before spending some time catching up with our blog and diary tonight.
Suzi - you need to look for a place called BONNERS FERRY...
We are almost on the west coast!!! We cannot quite believe that three weeks today we will be arriving home!!! There is still so much to do!!!
HAY Auties ;p
ReplyDeleteWow! You have some really AWESOME sky-pics posted on your blogs. Gotta love sky-pics (I always make sure to get some sky in all my scenery pics, if possible - after all, the sky is always different from the last time one saw it...).
It's great to know that the two of you are having a wonderful time. But it ain't over just yet!
Keep posting! And stay safe, too.
Lotsa love to ya both!
XO
P.S.: you'd be sixteen hours behind Japan, BTW (or the proverbial good-night's-sleep LESS THAN a day behind...). That's just over the time by plane from SA to HK.
;p
Hi yous twos - well! what with blogging - e mails and telephoning, it has been a busy day! Not quite as busy as yours - but a good day all the same! Caught up with the blog - and you know through out this trip, with all the incredible photographs, of the totally stunning scenery - you think at times that it cannot get better - but have to say the scenery at the Glacier National park is truly outstanding! You just want to be there - to touch the rocks - to feel the water - and to even make snowballs! You are privileged, as I am sure you know - when you see such beauty on this planet, that you have shown us with your photos - it really makes you realise, that it must be saved from the greed and corruption of humankind!
ReplyDeleteYou know - if you ever get fed up of social work -{who could get fed up with social work?} you could make a career change, into photography!
With all the wonderful experiences and happenings - the people you have met along the way - different lifestyles and cultures - you must have learnt so much, in so many different ways, and on different issues - and maybe had a look "outside the box" as they say in this pc culture!! Wow! really getting into the mode there!
It really does seem strange to hear you say you will be giving up the jeep soon - that jeep must seem like an old friend - it has certainly served you well!
and what on earth will we do when there is no blog or photos to check out every night?
So my travellers - enjoy your special days, and the adventures to come, {mind you! the days here in Dorset are also special!} As always take care of yourselves - keep safe and God Bless - love and hugs - Moi
Can't believe time is just flying and you nearly reached the west coast. I am going to miss your blog. With all this travelling maybe you can publish your own book with fotos "Life at 40 - Travelling East to West in USA". Your fotos are amazing and your blog very entertaining and funny. Keep safe and watch the other drivers/animals.
