A Cubby hole in the woods!!!

Okeedokes, so you’ll be ‘very surprised’ that today Will Be a very short entry, not only because we mostly travelled from A-B, in this case Polson to the West entrance of Glacier National Park; but also due to the fact that it’s me who’s writing and not Linz (I noticed that Linz’s entries are getting longer !)

Having left a very dreary and wet Polson today, we’d hoped that our journey away from the little town would bring sunshine, but the skies weren’t playing anymore despite heroic efforts by the sun to pour his sunshine down through cracks in the clouds. A journey that should only have taken a few hours, took some time and was filled with the sounds of Linz trying to teach me ‘Guide songs’ (I’m not sure if this made the journey longer or shorter but it was certainly amusing). She also explained how she got her badge for ‘orienteering’ despite not being able to read a compass (it’s called, the ‘Hook-Up-With-Someone-Who-Can’ process) but assured me she now can. I think it’s just lucky that our car does it for us digitally!

We finally arrived at West Glacier where we’re staying in a little ‘cubby-hole-sized-cabin’ in the middle of the woods (well, it actually has a restaurant and convenience store nearby- so civilised really; but Linz likes to scare herself and pretend there’s nothing there except us in the woods-her last words tonight being, ”What happens if we hear a bear outside?” I replied that I’d left a squeezy honey for it outside J and we’d be okay). Anyway, back to this supposedly ‘short entry for today’....

On the way to the cabin, we passed a few scenic lakes and walked down this path called ‘Goat Lick Pass’, a thoroughfare that promised 'White Mountain Goats’. Well, they weren’t standing there waiting for us to take a photo and so we had to go climbing a bit to find them (into that area that says, “Trespassers will be shot”) Well, we weren’t the first people to do this (clearly) as there was already a ‘route’ I could follow and there he was! ....The ol’ goat was hiding behind the trees (what is that say about ol’ goats hiding behind trees?)....Well, this one posed nicely and we got a good shot of its head. Other people had also followed and we all sat watching for a while as other goats made their way towards us, at which point I decided to join Linz on ‘safe ground’.

In going through the few photos we took, we figured this was today’s highlight and so this brings us to the end of this entry. It is an odd thing to say that we’re ‘tired and need a rest’ because we’re fortunate enough to be doing this; but the actuality is –we both need a good night’s sleep (bear or no bear) as we’ve been so busy.

We also saw a fantastic rainbow today - but by the time I got back to the 'cubby hole' for our camera, and back to where I could take a photo - half of it had faded!!!

Sus, remember you need to add a new sticker to your map- a place called WEST GLACIER (it’s at the corner of Glacier National Park; Montana/Canada).
