We left Missoula rather leisurely this morning... stopping at the 'Walmart' as we need to sort out our suitcases over the next few weeks travelling prior to getting rid of the car... and we needed to purchase an extra suitcase!!! We just know how much I love 'Walmart', but we were able to do a quick visit this morning!!!
Our travels today have taken us Northwards... we are staying at Flathead Lake which is actually on the Flathead Indian Reservation. We were hoping to simply stop and do nothing but lie by the pool... unfortunately today's weather was not 'pool' weather... We went for a bit of a drive around the lake this afternoon in search of somewhere to have a picnic lunch... sometimes when the weather is not fantastic... we actually have enough space in our big car to have our picnic!!! We ventured down a little lane called 'Pop's Place', which took us right down to the waters edge... clearly directed there by my Pops!!! It was wonderfully quiet and not another person in sight...
We have simply spent the evening relaxing and catching up with our journal...
Tomorrow is Independence day, and there is a parade scheduled for the town that we are staying in... it's ironic, and not planned that we would be on an Indian Reservation for Independence day...
It's really interesting that Native American history is not hidden from the public... and everywhere we have been there are museums and information relating to the experiences of the various tribes... this does not detract from the severity of the past, but it helps non-Native Americans with very little understanding and awareness to better understand their culture and experiences...
...We are also intrigued about the quilting within the Native American Culture... we had assumed that it was something predominantly within the Amish culture and yet it is also very intrinsic in the Native American culture....
A day of rest is just the ticket, although it really never is just that with you two. That landscape looks a lot more like back east. Won't be long now and you will be winging it back East. What an adventure you have been having.
