So having reached the West Coast on Friday, one would have thought that we could not travel any further westwards...well, today we did. We have travelled the length of Fidalgo and Whidby Islands and caught a ferry from Keystone across to Port Townsend on the Olympic Peninsula. Early this morning we travelled across Deception Pass where you could look across to the San Juan Islands and thankfully the sky was blue today!!! When we arrived at the ferry terminal at 1pm, we need to wait until the 3pm crossing so did some interesting exploring along the beach which was absolutely covered in driftwood...if we lived in this area, I would love to make art pieces out of driftwood.
So we actually got to do a trip on a boat today as we needed to get to the Peninsula.
I can't quite believe that two weeks tonight we'll be flying back to Heathrow, having been travelling now for ten weeks. It seems apt that on the eve of my birthday I've spent some time considering the journey, the symbolism and what it has meant both for me individually, as well as together with Jay. As people are aware, the main reason for taking out time to travel this year was due to the fact we are both turning 40yrs...what we have decided is that we don't want to wait until the next decade birthday to do another journey...
We are spending the next 3 nights at a town called Port Angeles where we are in a lovely hotel and our balcony overlooks the Straights of Juan de Fuca (whoever he is, no seriously - he was the explorer who had these islands named after him and this mass of water is what separates the mainland from the Pacific Ocean. Did Jay say something about me having a mindful of trivia-all things American?)
So tomorrow, we are off to explore the Olympic National Park and Jay has given up looking for moose.
Sus- your sticker needs to go on a place called Port Angeles, on a little piece of land off Seattle.
Happy Birthday Linz

Hi Girls!
ReplyDeleteHmmmm..... I've noticed the driftwood pic.s & wondered whom it was calling to. Doesn't it make you feel as if each piece has a story of its own journey?
'Deception pass" sounds like a story waiting to be told. =) and we love that you add all the trivia, those special bits and odds & ends without which your telling would be incomplete and our mental pictures would be lacking in bold colours.
Special Happy Birthday to Linz!
May you know & experience how cherished you are and how much YOU and those quiet things you "get done" & "organise without a hitch" mean to those who's lives you touch.
Hope you realise how special your gift is for finding the balance and for seeing the truth unvarnished. The fact that you're brave enough to use it as protection for those close to you, makes you special indeed.
We are all simply blessed for knowing YOU.
May this be the start of another amazing journey for you.
Blessed be & save travels.
