***Miles travelled today: 72
***Total Miles: 1645
***States travelled through: Ontario, Canada into New York State...
So, this morning we were going to get up really early and go down to the falls for the sunrise... but thought better of it at 04h30 when the alarm clock went off... but we took a photo out of the window anyway... we just love the sky!!!
When we were at a restaurant yesterday, Jay asked one of the waiters to recommend where the locals may go for breakfast and he recommended somewhere further away from the falls - so after checking out of the hotel we made our way to 'Falls Manor' where we had a lovely breakfast before making our way across Rainbow Bridge and back into the States!!! We took some final photos of the falls - we had two fantastic days at the falls, weather wise... today we woke up and it was misty and rainy... getting back into the States from Canada certainly took longer than getting into Canada last week...
We made our way into Buffalo, where we checked into another Best Western... collecting some nice points along the way... I'm sure we must be heading towards a free night soon!!!
We had arranged to see Ann's family... and so arrived late afternoon... and stayed into the evening... we had a fantastic meal, with John, Lucy and Phoebe... and a brief chat with Matthew before he ventured out for the evening...
Mid way through the meal.. Ann phoned from England... it was really odd talking to Ann back home in England, whilst we sat in Buffalo with her family...
It was a really wonderful evening... we have included some photos just for you Ann... we made sure they signed photo release forms!!!
...and especially the one of us in front of the quilted perpetual calendar made by your Dad in 1976!!! (Before coming over on our road trip Ann had shown us a load of photographs... including some from the 70's... and told us the story of her father making her this calendar... which is now a wall hanging in John and Lucy's home... we just had to take a photo of it for you...)
Thanks to John and Lucy... (who may become avid followers on the blog) for a really special evening... we will need to get the recipe for the seafood salad... and hope to see you in Raquette Lake in the not too distant future with Ann!!!
...so tomorrow we will be venturing further south, although we're not sure where we will end up... mid way between here and Lancaster county...
Suzi... it's time for another sticker... you need to look for BUFFALO!!!

It is very odd seeing you with my family while I am all this distance over the pond........I am so glad you spent time with them and now when I speak about them you really will know what i am talking about. I am quite surprised, Lindz that you asked about work and even more surprised that I didn't say much. Some points for me then. You have to buy an Amish quilt. I have one for my bed. And the bent wood rocker in my lounge is from there. You will be amazed that folks still live that way in a developed country. Can't wait to see tonite's photos.
ReplyDeleteAnn
haahaaaa :-))))) come one girls , half four isn't that early!! :-)) just what i had to do for years...:-)
ReplyDeletewellll,glad i don't anymore,anyway :-))
probably good idea to save energy for your wonderful day ahead, meeting these lovely people..
such truth, that people are people...same in the substance and mostly, very nice....those few plonkers, who upset the balance should go on a trip you do and meet them, so their hearts soften... :-)
with your miles travelled, you would have been from England to Slovakia and done a tour round my homeland for certain :-)
maybe one day..:-)
enjoy what day brings you ladies.
Love and Blessings to you both x x
Where the wild things are? The answer is in New York of course.... let's count them up... one tiger, one bird's nest (aka Matthew's hair) and one bald eagle (aka John's lack of a bird's nest)in the photo above. Seriously we had a wonderful time getting to know "the British Invasion." However there wasn't much new info to share as Ann had filled you in on all our sorry quirks while playing those games in her kitchen late at night. It really did seem like catching up rather than getting acquainted. Here's to more out-of-the-way experiences! Looking forward to following your blog. John, Lucy, Matthew, Phoebe
ReplyDeleteMontauk Seafood Salad

Lucy's notes:
Cleaning mussels adds much prep time, so
add other types of fish instead or use just the shrimp & scallops.
The simple dressing and cooking seafood for just a 1-2 minutes is all that makes this salad so good.
So happy that you enjoyed it!
You gals look like you are having an amazing time! I think its wonderful that you're getting to visit with people and explore the country(s)! Lancaster County is great fun! We have visited for the last two years to ride Thomas the Train!! Not sure of your interest in trains :-) but they have old steam trains in Strasburg (http://www.strasburgrailroad.com/) The red caboose is a fun motel and restaurant all in old caboose (http://www.redcaboosemotel.com/) Not sure I'd stay there but still fun to see! We normally stay at a B&B with AMAZING breakfast (http://www.thebarnatstrasburg.com/) They have a lot of outlet shopping in the area if you are interested? Have fun and I can't wait to see your pictures! Love, Pauline xxx
