A Bit of this & a Bit of that

***Miles travelled today: we did some but forgot to get it
***Total Miles:
***States travelled through: still in Wisconsin

We decided that today we would take it easy, dinkum - no sudden decision to explore where we were, just an easy drive after breakfast before retiring back to the hotel for some quietness. This was decided this morning after waking up and aching from all the walking and toting of bags from yesterday as well as the fact that the weather seemed muggy with the threat of heavy rain (the tail-end of the tornados sweeping in a fury across the States). Despite this, there's always opportunity for photos and the mist this morning, was really dense.
Well, true to form,we found this place for breakfast -the 'Egg Harbour Cafe' that had we stayed longer, we would've most likely have returned to. Any Portuguese person would've been proud of the lustrous collection of cockerels all over the place and any English-wo/man would've approved of the oakwood settings and benches that you sat at for a gourmet breakfast (we really are trying to be healthy although feel that the pressure to try different things is just too much-some might consider this a distortion of fact).....
Next door was a lovely shop and Linz had our camera out (hence the pic with sayings). We discovered a 'Coldstone Creamery' recommended by Everyone who we know has visited the States. It's an ice-cream shop that specialises in the 'creation of one's own flavour' or if you're overwhelmed like us, they suggest you try their specialities-one of which was the 'Mud-Pie Mojo' (coffee ice-cream with Oreo, p-nut butter, fudge and roasted almonds all chopped and spliced together by the 'mixer'). Thank goodness we shared a medium size called 'Im loving it' (small=I Like it and large=Gotta Have It).
Anyway, our drive took us around the lake which is not small by any means and to answer your question Claire-as to whether Lake Geneva in the USA resembles that of Switzerland - we don't know as we've not been there yet :) but again, a bit like Lake Placid in NY State, it has a Swiss 'feel' to it, but is definitely very touristy but beautiful.
....As for driving, we forgot to mention a 'Traffic violation' that occurred in the early part of yesterday 'en route to le shoppes' .... one of us (not Linz) got into the wrong lane at a toll booth which allows you to drive straight through providing you have an 'Easy Pass' - which, we don't. Now we owe the State of Illinois 80 cents, payable within 7 days otherwise it's registered as a traffic violation and you may face a fine or time in court. Paying it isn't as easy as one would think as we aren't residents and the car isn't registered to us, but we've a few more days to sort this out :)..... no pressure here.
Last but not least for today, we've been chatting about the fact that we're 6 wks into this trip and previously, we'd have returned to work by now (the longest time away being 5 wks in South Africa).....it's odd because although we're loving and living every moment we have; we are missing family, friends and home.
But we aren't coming home folks - not just yet =) there is still way too much to explore and experience (and Linz added, many more miles to travel ). Tomorrow we head for the Mississippi River and hopefully find a steamer...Linz has always wanted to do this.
As for the photo of us looking like twins, this is unintentional as we all know what we think of 'those couples who feel the need to dress alike' !

  1. That ice cream sounds divine...........but still eating healthily, yes? The lake does look like the Adirondacks and the steam boat in the background like the one you hope to find on the Mississippi. Think of Mark Twain too.
